Project Highlight: ‘JMW Turner On the Wing’ – Our Animation Contribution

We are incredibly proud to have played a role in "Dialogues with Turner: Evoking the Sublime," a career-defining, long-form, three-screen film about the life and work of the revered painter J.M.W. Turner.

Our specific contribution to this prestigious project was the bespoke animation, which forms a visual backbone to the film's narrative.

For this custom-made Turner documentary, we opted for a rotoscope-heavy, richly textured animation technique. Our aim was to move beyond standard 2D animation, producing something deeply rooted in the handmade to complement Turner's expressive style.

This unique approach allows visitors to journey alongside Turner and experience the landscapes that inspired his masterpieces in a truly distinctive visual language. Providing an unprecedented opportunity to delve into the extraordinary artistic world of one of the greatest British painters of the 19th century.

Following its international debut in Shanghai—where it formed part of the largest exhibition of oil paintings ever loaned by Tate to an Asian institution—JMW Turner: On the Wing is now showing at Tate Britain, playing daily on a loop until 31 May 2026.

The film also recently opened at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, with further international screenings planned as part of Tate’s touring program.

We’re honoured to have contributed animation to this significant cultural project, helping to bring Turner’s world to life through our distinct, handcrafted visual style
